2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Range & Specs: The Most Anticipated EV of the Year?
The all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will send shockwaves through the full-size pickup segment. The waiting list is long, and anticipation grows.
The company's first EV pickup is with little doubt the most important electric vehicle that will be offered for sale in 2022. The Ford F-150 is the best-selling truck in Canada since the mid-1960s and has been the best-selling vehicle overall for a dozen years. This momentum will make the Lightning one of the most talked-about EVs in the coming year.
Ford’s efforts to go all-electric by 2030 began with the Mustang Mach-E and will hit their cruising speed when the F-150 Lightning arrives later in 2022. With such strong brand recognition and increasing interest in electric vehicles, the Lightning will sell itself. In fact, Ford temporarily stopped taking reservations in December of 2021 due to overwhelming demand.

The all-new Ford F-150 Lightning won’t be the first light-duty full-size all-electric pickup available, but it will be the most significant.
The 2022 F-150 Lightning is the next step in Ford’s enduring dominance in the full-size pickup segment. Poised to be all things at once, the Lightning will provide contractors, do-it-yourselfers, and families efficiency, safety, and capabilities.
Expected range, charging times and performance for Ford’s first all-electric F-150
480 km range with the Extended-range battery pack
The Ford F-150 Lightning will be offered as standard with two electric motors, one on the front axle and the other on the rear with four-wheel-drive proficiency. Powering the electric motors will be one of two lithium-ion battery pack sizes.
The 98-kW standard-range battery will enable the truck to travel up to an estimated 370 kilometres between charges. The available 131-kW Extended-range battery pack increases mobility to an estimated 480 kilometres. The indicated ranges will vary based on selected trim and use.
Charging duties

The best solution for at home charging is relying on Ford’s optional 80A Charge Station Pro which will take the standard battery from 15% to 100% in only 10 hours. The Extended-range battery will need even less time at 8 hours. This is made possible by the Lightning’s onboard chargers at 11.3 kW for the Standard-range and 19.2 kW for the Extended-range battery.
On the road, the Standard-range Lightning will deliver a 15% to 80% state of charge in 91 minutes when plugged into a 50-kW DC fast charger. A far faster 150-kW charger will lower the wait time to 44 minutes. As for the Extended-range battery, charge times will be 122 minutes and 41 minutes, respectively.
No shortage of power with 426-hp and 775 lb.-ft. of torque
The 2022 F-150 Lightning will never lack for power. With the Standard-range battery, the twin electric motors combine to generate 426 horsepower and a massive 775 lb.-ft. of torque. With the Extended-range battery, the horsepower figure jumps to 563.

2022 F-150 Lightning trims and standard features
Early production units of the all-new F-150 Lightning will all be configured with the SuperCrew four-door cab and the 5.5-foot bed. As standard, the Lightning XLT will be delivered with extended running boards, the Tailgate Work Surface, 20-inch wheels, and the 9.6 kW Pro Power Onboard with ten 120V outlets (two in the cab, four in the bed, and four in the front trunk) and a 240V outlet in the bed.
Other standard features include a horizontal 12-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4, the interior Work Surface, cloth seating, and wireless Ford Power-Up over-the-air updates.
Moving up to the Lariat trim adds leather seating, a 15.5-inch touchscreen display, a power up/down tailgate, among many other features. The top-trim Platinum version will include 22-inch wheels, heated and cooled leather multi-contour front seats, a B&O sound system, a large moonroof, and the Extended-range battery.
