Kia SUV Models in Canada

Kia has come a long way in terms of quality and performance. The Korean's SUVs and crossovers are no exception. From the quirky little Soul and new subcompact Seltos, to the popular mid-size Telluride, new Carnival minivan, and all-electric EV6 GT serving up 576 horsepower. Below, select a Kia SUV to learn more.

If you're researching a used SUV now, here are all our pre-owned Kia SUV and crossovers. All our vehicles arrive at your door following a complete inspection. And there's a 7 day return policy, in case you don't love it. It's really that simple. Now, let's get on with the Kia SUV lineup in Canada.

Kia Soul: subcompact crossover SUV

Soul specs:

  • Available Engine: 2.0L
  • Performance: 147 horsepower and 132 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 62.1 cubic feet (with rear seats folded)
  • Number of passengers: 5

There’s no denying the Kia Soul looks like nothing else on the road. It’s the vehicle that arguably put Kia on the automotive map due to its unmistakable cube-like design. The 2022 version doesn’t try to fix what’s not broken, keeping the general look intact albeit with a more “assertive” front end, plus a new-look emblem.

The interior has more updates, such as sound-reactive mood lights to create an atmospheric vibe with your Harmon Kardon sound system (on the GT-Line Limited trim). Beyond the base level EX, you will enjoy a 10.3-inch infotainment system featuring all the latest connectivity and navigational tech.

Considering the electric version? Here's our closer look at the Kia Soul EV Range & Specs.

Kia Seltos: subcompact crossover SUV

Seltos specs:

  • Available Engine: 2.0L or 1.6L Turbo GDI
  • Performance: Up to 175 horsepower and 195 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 62.8 cubic feet (with first row seats folded)
  • Number of passengers: 5

Those looking for a more rugged version of the Soul will likely find their niche with the all-wheel drive Seltos. This subcompact SUV offers a more confident driving experience when hitting the wintery roads. It also delivers an upgrade in cargo space – 62.8 cubic feet with the first row folded down.

New for the 2022 Seltos is standardized active safety tech, including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlamps. Those craving more power can choose the top-end SX model with a 175 horsepower, 1.6L Turbo-GDI engine with a 7-speed transmission. All other Seltos models feature a 146 horsepower, 2.0L engine.

Kia EV6: battery electric compact crossover SUV

Kia EV6 | Photo: Kia

EV6 specs:

  • Most powerful production Kia in history
  • All-electric powertrain with 576 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque
  • 800-volt architecture for fast-charging, drift mode for fast sideways action
  • 0-100 km/h in 3.55 seconds

The Kia EV6 may be the Hyundai IONIQ 5’s mechanical twin, but it’s also its most important rival. Hyundai’s duo of electric crossovers slot into a newly hot segment that includes new models like the Volkswagen ID.4, the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and the upcoming Nissan Ariya.

The EV6 can be had with a variety of different configurations depending on the size of the battery and how many electric motors you choose. Base models are powered by a 58-kWh battery, while a 77.4-kWh unit powers higher trim levels. Here's our full 2022 EV6 first drive review.

Of course, if you're seeking an all-electric powertrain with 576 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque, head over to our 2023 Kia EV6 GT first drive review to learn more about this EV beast.

Kia Niro: compact crossover SUV

Niro specs:

  • Available Engine: 1.6L or GDI HEV or Permanent Magnet Synchronous
  • Performance: Up to 139 horsepower and 195 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 63 cubic feet (rear seats up)
  • Number of passengers: 5

Kia’s entry into the electric vehicle space is the Niro, an affordable hatchback SUV crossover that’s roomy, versatile, and most importantly, fuel efficient. Just how efficient? It depends on what kind of Niro you choose, as the new options include a hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or full electric (EV).

For example, the standard hybrid has a combined fuel rate of 4.6L per 100 kilometres. The EV Niro will get you around 385 kilometres on a full charge, which takes around 10 hours to charge on an AC Level 2 charger. With up to 63 cubic feet of cargo space with folded rear seats, the Niro rates highly against many hybrid peers.

Kia Sportage: compact SUV

Sportage specs:

  • Available Engine: 2.4L GDI or 2.0L Turbo GDI
  • Performance: Up to 237 horsepower and 260 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 60.1 cubic feet (behind first row, floor lowered)
  • Number of passengers: 5

Kia made modest changes to its Sportage model in 2022, keeping the compact SUV crossover’s well-built interior and dynamic exterior design mostly intact. One of the central features of the Sportage is Dynamax Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, which fully automates torque distribution, translating to better traction when cornering and acceleration.

It also comes with intelligent safety tech like the Forward Avoidance Assist system which can detect potential collisions and automatically apply the brakes to reduce impact. The 2023 model featured a major overhaul, which we had a chance to test out. Read our full 2023 Kia Sportage first drive review.

Kia Sorento: mid-size crossover SUV

Kia Sorento | Photo: Kia

Sorento specs:

  • Available Engine: 1.6L 4-Cylinder GDI + Lithium Ion Polymer battery
  • Performance: Up to 261 horsepower and 258 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 75.5 cubic feet (behind first row)
  • Number of passengers: 7

The Kia Sorento fits the bill if you’re looking for a compact SUV with three rows of seating, but not quite as big as the next-step-up Telluride. The last row doesn’t promise much leg room for adults, though stowing that far back row creates plenty of storage and cabin comfort for weekend family trips.

The big news for the Sorento in 2022 is the addition of hybrid (HEV) and sub-$45,000 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models for those looking at fuel consumption as a priority. All Sorento models feature all-wheel drive in Canada, but some of the driver assist technology features depend on your trim choice.

The outgoing Sorento made our list of the 10 Cheapest Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) in Canada.

Kia Telluride: mid-size crossover SUV

Kia Telluride | Photo: Kia

Telluride specs:

  • Available Engine: 3.8L V6 GDI
  • Performance: 291 horsepower and 262 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 86.7 cubic feet (behind first row)
  • Number of passengers: Up to 8

The Telluride is Kia’s extremely popular crossover SUV because it satisfies the market’s need for size, sharp exterior design, and a price-point that could be considered affordable compared to its luxury-orientated peers.

It has won many awards and topped many best-of lists for a reason. Offering up to 8-passenger seating, the Telluride declares itself a family-first vehicle built with All-Wheel Drive and a punchy 291 horsepower engine. It’s also safety-minded, with various driver assist features – forward collision avoidance, safe exit, and blind spot collision avoidance from the baseline model and up. The 10.3-inch touchscreen and fully automatic temperature control also come on the bottom trims.

Kia Carnival: minivan / Life Utility Vehicle (LUV)

Kia Carnival | Photo: Kia

Carnival specs:

  • Available Engine: 3.5L V6 GDI
  • Performance: 290 horsepower and 262 LB.-FT. of torque
  • Cargo space: Up to 145.1 cubic feet (behind first row)
  • Number of passengers: Up to 8

Minivans aren’t known for their sense of style, but Kia successfully managed to buck that stereotype with its attractive Carnival (formally called the Sedona). Kia is actually calling this a “LUV,” as in Life Utility Vehicle.

Clever marketing aside, the Carnival sports a massive amount of interior space, including an option to convert the second row of seating into a “VIP lounge,” complete with reclining seats and footrests for the kids to kick back after school. It also features a passenger view monitor for mom and dad to keep an eye on all seating rows and ensure no monkeying around. Many of Kia’s innovative driver assist safety tech is also available on the Carnival.

As you can see, there’s a Kia utility vehicle for nearly everyone. The small Soul and Seltos offer distinct style and maneuverability in a small size; as does the compact Niro offering the best fuel economy of the bunch.

For growing families who need that extra space and power, the 5-passenger Sportage and larger 7-passenger Sorento fit the bill, offering up to 237-hp and 291-hp, respectively. As does the mid-size Telluride which borders on full-size SUV in terms of exterior looks.

Finally, the new Kia Carnival is the ultimate family hauler in the mix, sporting boxy SUV exterior looks, unlike the Sedona minivan it replaces.
