2016 Canadian International Auto Show Highlights

If you are a car lover who missed this year’s Canadian International Auto Show, don’t worry! We put together the major highlights of the unique vehicle trends emerging this year.

The Canadian International Auto Show is Canada’s largest annual Auto Show, and this year they reported record crowds. This year it was hosted in Toronto, at the Metro Toronto Convention Center, and ran from February 12th-21st.

The Auto Show had plenty to offer for a vast demographic of car enthusiasts, with concept models, reimagined models, and comeback models. With so much to see in so little time, it is nice to reflect on some key highlights from the largest Canadian Auto Show.

The Concept Models

For starters, the concepts cars were out in full force this year. The Auto Show featured exotic cars from the likes of international automakers such as McLaren, Ferrari, and Maserati, and these cars definitely mesmerized this year’s crowds.

Although most concept cars are never mass-produced, some of their features will be brought into upcoming models. Even if they don’t make their way to the market, part of the allure of attending large auto shows like this is the chance to take in and admire the concept models that go beyond the everyday car and resemble pieces of artwork instead.

Another concept vehicle highlighted at the show was the 2016 Buick Envision, a remodelled cross-over SUV – otherwise known as a CUV. While it may not lead to the same level of awe as the exotic concept models do, the Envision unveiled many new and innovative technologies and features that are sure to excite many drivers following its summer 2016 release.

Although it was not the flashiest of vehicles you could have spotted at the Auto Show this year, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Minivan has undergone a level of re-design that sets itself apart from previously released minivan models. After all, who said a vehicle with convenience and practicality can’t also have style and elegance? Again, it was another exciting model to be released this upcoming summer.

The Comeback Models

Finally, the Auto Show shed light on models that are poised to make a comeback in the Canadian market. Set for release in the summer of 2016, is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Alltrack. This re-envisioned sports wagon will extend to drivers the best of both worlds. A cross between an SUV and of course a more traditional wagon, this VW model is described as being comparative to the Audi A4 hatchback and the Subaru Outback.

For anyone who has ever attended a large-scale auto show like this one, a likely observation is that these shows provide us with a glimpse into the future of automobiles. From exotic concept models, to more familiar models that now come in the form of a hybrid or an electric engine vehicle – all of these cars on display can thrill and inspire us as vehicles continue to evolve as fast as we can say ‘GO’.
