Volkswagen has issued a recall, affecting 52,032 Atlas and Passat vehicles in Canada, affecting multiple model years ranging from 2012-2019. The automaker confirmed a problem with headlights that do not conform to Canadian regulations.
On May 23, 2019, Volkswagen issued a recall for 2012-18 Passat and 2018-19 Atlas vehicles.
Vehicles built with headlights that may allow horizontal adjustment are not allowed under Canadian regulations. When they don’t adjust properly, they can reduce visibility or increase glare for oncoming drivers, potentially raising the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen hasn’t reported any crashes or injuries related to the defect, but will urge customers to get it fixed quickly.
The recall affects 52,032 Passat and Atlas vehicles in Canada.
It applies to the Passat in model years 2012 to 2018, along with the Atlas in both 2018 and 2019 model years.
What Should You Do?
Volkswagen will notify owners by mail with instructions to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the headlights for repair. Dealers will install a blocking cap on the horizontal adjusters where necessary.
