GM Recalls 23,000 Vehicles Due to Transmission Oil Leak
GM has issued a recall affecting about 23,000 vehicles in Canada because of a transmission oil leak that could potentially cause vehicles to stop moving or catch fire.

This recall covers several different models, totalling 22,911 in Canada, plus another 194,105 in the United States.

- 2019 Chevrolet Traverse
- 2018-19 Chevrolet Cruze
- 2019-20 Chevrolet Blazer
- 2020 Cadillac XT6
- 2019-20 GMC Terrain
What’s the problem?
The issue comes from missing or loose bolts on the accumulator, the part that automatically stops the engine when the vehicle has been idling too long to save on fuel and emissions. A software error originating from the factory may have caused the problem with the missing or loose bolts, If it caused transmission fluid to leak, it may force the transmission to stop, causing the wheels to lose power. There’s also the risk of fire if it comes into contact with hot surfaces under the hood.
GM hasn’t reported any crashes or injuries related to the defect.
What’s the fix?
Dealers will inspect the accumulator to determine if any bolts are loose or missing. The repair will be done free of charge.
What do you do?
GM will begin notifying affected owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealer for inspection. The repairs should begin in December.
