1.25 Million Truck Recalls - What's My Next Step?
Fiat Chrysler Automobile has recalled over 1.25 million trucks worldwide due to a software error that could temporarily disable the side air bag and reduce the seat belt slack during impacts.
The company will reprogram computer modules in the affected vehicles to address the error, but how can you find out if your vehicle is recalled? And what do you do if it is?
Here are the first two steps that you need to take:
1) Research
Check if your vehicle has been recalled either online or through the dealership where you purchased it. You can also check by running a history report through your vehicle’s VIN – the Vehicle Identification Number.
The 17 number VIN can be found by looking at the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. The easiest way to view it is to stand outside of the vehicle on the driver's side and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield. If the VIN cannot be found there, open the driver's side door and look at the door post (where the door latches when it’s closed). You can also find the VIN on your sales agreement, insurance documents and title. Websites like the Canadian recall checker or Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recall checker will also provide information on whether your vehicle has been recalled or not.
2) Contact Your Local Dealership ASAP
If your vehicle is one of the recalled vehicles, contact your local dealership and get the ball rolling on fixing it as soon as possible. Waiting to get a recalled vehicle fixed could put yourself and others in danger on the road. Notify the closest franchised dealership and make an appointment with their service department as soon as possible.
