Airbag Recall: Does this Affect Your Car?

Find out if your car is affected by this airbag recall, and what steps you need to take to get your car fixed.

By now you may have heard about the long list of vehicle recalls that have arisen due to a certain Takata air bag issue. Of course, for many this means you might be worrying about how this will affect you and your vehicle. Here are some important details about this giant recall, and what you should do if your vehicle is affected:

What is the issue?

Let’s begin with discussing the issue itself. Again, the airbags at the centre of this predicament were supplied from the Japanese automotive parts company, Takata. It was originally thought that only vehicles models from 2002-2008 were affected, but it has recently been determined that vehicles as recent as 2015 are also affected by this recall.

The reason for this massive recall is that there are defective devices in the airbags that might deploy incorrectly during a car crash, which could cause serious harm to drivers. While there have been no reports in Canada of any airbag issues, it is better to err on the side of caution and have your airbags replaced.

Which vehicles are affected?

In response to this occurrence, Transport Canada has taken steps to ensure the safety of Canadian residents who may currently be at risk of falling victim to one of these airbag-related accidents. Manufacturers have also been taking their own set of actions to inform drivers of this growing concern.

When compiled, the list of affected vehicles is quite extensive. To find out if your vehicle is one of the roughly 1.5 million vehicles affected by this recall in Canada, you can refer to vehicles listed below by brand and model.
